But why "Nootka" Tree Oil?
We're happy you asked. You're thinking Nootkatone, I'm sure. And you'd be right … partially. Nootka Tree Oil does contain Nootkatone. But Nootkatone was named after Nootka Tree Oil (Callitropsis nootkatensis) … NOT the other way around. Nootkatone was first identified in a tree called Nootka Tree that is found in an area called Nootka Sound. That was way back in the 1940s. Nootka Sound, in turn, was named after the ancient inhabitants of the region-the Nootka Tribe.
It was only much later that Nootkatone was also found to be in grapefruits.

Composition
The composition of Nootka Tree Oil is quite surprising. The oil contains up to 5% of Nootkatone and up to 12% of Valencene. There's also 1%-2% Carvacrol. And then there's a new ingredient, Nootkatene (a derivative of Nootkatone), which makes up 60% of the oil.
